Nobody’s Listening Exhibition
An impact-evaluation of an award-winning VR experience
Nobody’s Listening is a ground-breaking virtual reality experience and immersive exhibition to commemorate the genocide of the Yazidis by ISIS.
By combining technology and art, the immersive exhibition enables viewers to understand the wider aspects of the genocide. It aims to stimulate the public’s imagination and bring them closer to the tragedy by using virtual and augmented reality technology, sculpture, painting and photography. This includes artworks from Yazidi, Assyrian and Christian artists as well as from survivors.
The exhibition inspires viewers to take action by including social media stations, enabling them to make pledges of commitment to show that #WeAreListening.
In mid-2021, CHO along with its partner organizations presented “Nobody’s Listening” (NL) in a series of cities across Iraq as a means of supporting the Yazidi community to raise awareness about the genocide they experienced and advocate for greater support and solidarity from the national and international community. As a result, we produced a report investigating the impact of the NL VR exhibition, and whether it can support human rights advocacy for the Yazidi community and persecuted groups more widely.
This report was authored by Dr. Rozhen Kamal Mohammed-Amin, Dr. Akrivi Katifori, and Prof. Dr. Maria Economou. You can access this VR experience in our office.
